Boxscores Lie! Most Deceptive NFL Finals From Last Week
Oct 20th, 2026

NFL DECEPTIVE BOX SCORES — OCTOBER 20, 2026

1. TENNESSEE 26, INDIANAPOLIS 20

THE WEEK'S STRONGEST DECEPTIVE BOX SCORE

Indianapolis dominated the conventional box score, outgaining Tennessee 399–186 in net offense, producing 24 first downs to Tennessee's 11 and running 78 offensive plays against 45.

The Colts averaged 5.1 yards per play against Tennessee's 4.1 and controlled possession 38:32 to 21:28.

Despite those overwhelming statistical advantages, Indianapolis lost by six.

Tennessee's victory was driven by three takeaways, a blocked-punt touchdown and a 58-yard punt return that created favorable field position.

Betting adjustment: Indianapolis is the strongest NFL buy-low candidate, subject to quarterback and turnover concerns. Tennessee is the strongest sell-high candidate. The next matchups are Indianapolis at Minnesota and Cleveland at Tennessee.

2. DENVER 17, SEATTLE 14 (OT)

SEATTLE OUTGAINED DENVER BY 185 YARDS AND LOST

Seattle produced 353 net yards to Denver's 168, recorded 24 first downs to 13 and averaged 4.3 yards per play against Denver's 2.9.

The Seahawks ran 82 plays to Denver's 57.

However, Seattle committed three turnovers while Denver committed none. Sam Darnold's overtime interception set up the winning 53-yard field goal.

Betting adjustment: Seattle strong upgrade, with continuing turnover concerns. Denver strong offensive downgrade.

Denver visits Arizona on October 25, while Seattle hosts Kansas City.

3. NEW ORLEANS 34, NY GIANTS 27

THE LOSING TEAM HAD SUBSTANTIALLY MORE YARDAGE

The Giants produced approximately 461 net yards to New Orleans' 319.

However, New York committed four turnovers against the Saints' one.

New Orleans led 34–10 before the Giants scored 17 late points. Backup quarterback J.J. McCarthy was responsible for much of the late passing production.

This is precisely why cumulative yardage alone can be deceptive.

Betting adjustment: The Giants' performance must be separated by quarterback and game state. New Orleans is a possible sell-high, but the Giants are not an automatic buy-low merely because they accumulated more yards.

4. CAROLINA 25, PHILADELPHIA 14

THE PANTHERS WERE MORE DOMINANT THAN THE SCORE

Carolina outgained Philadelphia 399–222, averaged 5.4 yards per play against 3.6 and produced 25 first downs to 17.

Neither team committed a turnover.

Philadelphia punted eight times, while Carolina controlled possession and generated substantially more productive rushing offense.

An important qualification: Philadelphia was missing Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, significantly affecting the interpretation of its offensive problems.

Betting adjustment: Carolina upgrade against Tampa Bay. Philadelphia downgrade unless returning personnel meaningfully improves its outlook against Dallas.

5. KANSAS CITY 22, LA CHARGERS 6

KANSAS CITY SHOULD HAVE WON BY MORE

Kansas City outgained Los Angeles 422–259 in net offense and averaged 7.4 yards per play against 4.1.

The Chiefs were substantially better offensively but converted only one of four red-zone opportunities and failed to capitalize on additional short-yardage situations.

Los Angeles did not score a touchdown.

Betting adjustment: Kansas City upgrade heading into Seattle. Los Angeles Chargers offensive downgrade.

6. CHICAGO 31, ATLANTA 23

CHICAGO CONTROLLED THE GAME MORE THAN THE SCORE SUGGESTS

Chicago outgained Atlanta 368–257 in net offense and controlled possession 40:08 to 19:52.

The Bears led 28–7 through three quarters before Atlanta scored 16 fourth-quarter points.

Chicago ran 73 plays against Atlanta's 50, although yards per play were virtually even. Chicago's advantage came primarily from sustaining drives and benefiting from two more takeaways.

Betting adjustment: Chicago moderate upgrade. Atlanta downgrade. The Bears host New England on Thursday; Atlanta hosts San Francisco on Sunday.

7. ARIZONA 18, LA RAMS 16

SIX FIELD GOALS WON A GAME WITHOUT AN ARIZONA TOUCHDOWN

Arizona outgained Los Angeles 338–286 in net offense and produced 22 first downs against 19.

Yet Arizona failed to score a touchdown despite repeatedly reaching scoring territory.

Chad Ryland made all six field-goal attempts, including the winner as time expired.

This game demonstrates the importance of separating yardage production from finishing efficiency.

Betting adjustment: Arizona modest underlying upgrade against Denver, contingent on red-zone improvement. Los Angeles Rams offensive downgrade against Las Vegas.

8. SAN FRANCISCO 23, WASHINGTON 17

THE SIX-POINT FINAL OBSCURED A DOMINANT FIRST HALF

San Francisco led 20–3 at halftime, outgaining Washington 303–90 during the opening half.

Washington subsequently mounted a comeback, but personnel developments were significant.

San Francisco lost Mike Evans to Achilles discomfort, while Washington lost Terry McLaurin to a knee injury.

Betting adjustment: San Francisco's early offensive efficiency merits positive consideration, but the availability of Evans and other receivers must be factored into its next game at Atlanta.

NFL WEEK 7 BETTING INTELLIGENCE

INDIANAPOLIS AT MINNESOTA: The Colts outgained Tennessee by 213 net yards in defeat. Indianapolis is a buy-low candidate.

KANSAS CITY AT SEATTLE: Seattle outgained Denver by 185 net yards in defeat, while Kansas City produced 422 yards against the Chargers. Both teams receive positive underlying-performance adjustments.

DENVER AT ARIZONA: Denver managed only 168 net offensive yards in victory. The Broncos are a sell-high candidate.

CLEVELAND AT TENNESSEE: The Titans won despite producing only 186 net offensive yards. Tennessee is a sell-high candidate.

TAMPA BAY AT CAROLINA: The Panthers outgained Philadelphia by 177 net yards. Carolina receives an upgrade.

DALLAS AT PHILADELPHIA: Philadelphia's depleted offense struggled. The Eagles' downgrade depends heavily on returning personnel.

NY GIANTS AT HOUSTON: The Giants' late passing surge came with a quarterback change. New York is a conditional buy-low candidate.

SAN FRANCISCO AT ATLANTA: The 49ers dominated Washington early, while Atlanta struggled to sustain possessions against Chicago. San Francisco's personnel availability is crucial.
