COLLEGE FOOTBALL DECEPTIVE BOX SCORES — OCTOBER 20, 2026

1. KENTUCKY 21, OKLAHOMA 13

OKLAHOMA BUY-LOW CANDIDATE

Oklahoma outgained Kentucky 346–230, produced 19 first downs to Kentucky's 14 and recorded a 44% offensive success rate against Kentucky's 41%. Yet Oklahoma lost by eight points.

The decisive discrepancy was a 4–0 turnover differential. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer threw three interceptions, including a 41-yard return touchdown with 1:17 remaining. That return turned Kentucky's narrow 14–13 lead into a 21–13 final.

Oklahoma had the better success rate, but Kentucky held the EPA/play advantage, approximately −0.01 to −0.11, because Oklahoma's negative plays were so damaging.

Betting adjustment: Upgrade Oklahoma's underlying ability moderately, but require evidence of improved quarterback decision-making. Downgrade Kentucky relative to the eight-point winning margin. Four takeaways should not automatically be projected into the next matchup.

2. TULANE 31, MEMPHIS 17

MEMPHIS BUY-LOW CANDIDATE

Memphis outgained Tulane 488–325, recorded 27 first downs to 12 and averaged 6.0 yards per play against Tulane's 5.4.

Memphis also had the stronger offensive success rate, 44% to 29%. However, the Tigers committed six turnovers, compared with two by Tulane, and scored on only two of six red-zone opportunities.

EPA/play was actually worse for Memphis, −0.23 versus −0.09, illustrating the distinction between consistently gaining yardage and avoiding catastrophic negative plays.

Betting adjustment: Memphis is a significant conditional buy-low candidate. Tulane is a sell-high candidate if the market substantially upgrades it for a 14-point victory. Memphis' quarterback turnovers remain a legitimate concern.

3. AUBURN 27, GEORGIA 24

GEORGIA UNDERLYING PERFORMANCE UPGRADE

Georgia generated approximately 440 yards to Auburn's 366, averaged 6.9 yards per play against 5.0, and posted a superior offensive success rate, 54% to 43%.

However, Georgia committed three turnovers while Auburn committed none. Auburn also held a modest EPA/play advantage, +0.11 to +0.04, reflecting more effective high-leverage execution.

Betting adjustment: Georgia receives a moderate upgrade on down-to-down offensive production. Auburn deserves credit for the upset, but the result should not produce an excessive power-rating increase.

4. UAB 30, EAST CAROLINA 17 (OT)

OVERTIME SCORING DISTORTION

This was a 17–17 game after regulation.

UAB scored an overtime touchdown before sealing the victory with an 80-yard interception-return touchdown. That produced an apparent 13-point victory despite the teams entering overtime tied.

UAB outgained East Carolina 361–317 and had the better EPA/play, +0.13 to −0.17.

Betting adjustment: Do not upgrade UAB as though it delivered a conventional 13-point victory. East Carolina deserves a narrower-loss adjustment, but not a substantial underlying-performance upgrade.

5. WASHINGTON 38, PURDUE 26

WASHINGTON SHOULD HAVE WON BY MORE

Washington outgained Purdue 488–371, averaged 8.0 yards per play against 5.5, and won despite committing five turnovers to Purdue's two.

Washington held a substantial advantage in EPA/play, +0.21 to −0.19, and offensive success rate, 51% to 35%.

The Huskies' offensive line and explosive-play production were considerably better than the final 12-point margin suggests.

Betting adjustment: Strong Washington underlying-performance upgrade. Purdue downgrade. Washington is idle October 24, so carry the adjustment forward.

6. MIAMI 43, FLORIDA STATE 35 (2OT)

MIAMI'S UNDERLYING SUPERIORITY WAS MORE SUBSTANTIAL

Miami generated approximately 583 yards to Florida State's 443, controlled possession and had a significant advantage in successful offensive plays.

Its success rate was 49% to Florida State's 35%, while EPA/play favored Miami +0.28 to +0.13.

Although the contest required double overtime, Miami's stronger sustained offense and finishing efficiency provide evidence of a bigger performance gap than the eight-point result.

Betting adjustment: Miami moderate upgrade. Florida State mild downgrade.

7. GEORGIA SOUTHERN 23, OLD DOMINION 15

GEORGIA SOUTHERN HIDDEN DOMINANCE

Georgia Southern outgained Old Dominion 405–266, produced 28 first downs to 16 and dominated possession 37:21 to 22:39.

The Eagles also held substantial advantages in success rate, 49% to 38%, and EPA/play, +0.02 to −0.10.

Old Dominion's fourth-quarter 71-yard touchdown and successful two-point conversion narrowed a game Georgia Southern had largely controlled.

Betting adjustment: Georgia Southern strong upgrade. Old Dominion downgrade.

8. BALL STATE 32, BOWLING GREEN 31 (OT)

BALL STATE'S PERFORMANCE WAS BETTER THAN THE MARGIN

Ball State outgained Bowling Green 435–313, including 240–98 rushing. It also produced five more first downs.

Turnovers were even, eliminating the most common explanation for such an unusual yardage-to-score relationship.

Betting adjustment: Ball State upgrade. Bowling Green downgrade.

9. SAN DIEGO STATE 26, FRESNO STATE 23

SAN DIEGO STATE'S STATISTICAL EDGE EXCEEDED THE FINAL MARGIN

San Diego State outgained Fresno State 384–276, including 204 rushing yards to 135. Both teams committed one turnover.

The 108-yard advantage is more meaningful than the three-point final indicates, although Fresno State had a slight first-down advantage.

Betting adjustment: San Diego State moderate upgrade.

10. LOUISVILLE 34, SYRACUSE 26

SYRACUSE OUTGAINED THE WINNER

Syracuse lost despite generating 462 yards to Louisville's 425 and an extraordinary 26–15 first-down advantage.

However, Syracuse committed an additional turnover and converted only three of 14 third downs.

Betting adjustment: Syracuse slight conditional upgrade. Louisville mild sell-high candidate.

11. APPALACHIAN STATE 35, COASTAL CAROLINA 32

APPALACHIAN STATE WAS BETTER THAN THE SCORE

Appalachian State outgained Coastal Carolina 516–437, rushed for 253 yards against 139 and recorded seven more first downs.

Turnovers were even.

Betting adjustment: Appalachian State moderate upgrade.

12. OHIO STATE 19, INDIANA 15

INDIANA'S YARDAGE ADVANTAGE REQUIRES CONTEXT

Indiana outgained Ohio State 369–313, but the advanced statistics complicate the interpretation.

Ohio State held a 44% to 38% success-rate advantage and a small EPA/play edge, −0.03 to −0.05.

The quarterback injury situation also matters.

Betting adjustment: Indiana slight conditional buy-low against Michigan, but not one of the strongest statistical upgrades.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL BETTING INTELLIGENCE

Strongest losing-team upgrades: OKLAHOMA, MEMPHIS, GEORGIA.

Strongest hidden winners: WASHINGTON, MIAMI, GEORGIA SOUTHERN, BALL STATE, SAN DIEGO STATE.

Sell-high candidates: KENTUCKY, TULANE, UAB.

Tennessee's 26–10 victory over Alabama and Wake Forest's 41–7 victory over California were supported by substantial underlying statistical advantages. Those results should not be faded merely because their margins were large.
